Pathfinder

Pathfinder goal is simple : Allow people or organisation to search efficiently in your own files, archives, network or shared driveswithout depending on external cloud.

Why Pathfinder?

With time, files aggregate, Documents, scripts, exports, notes, backups, configurations, old projects, shared folders : Important information often exist somewhere, but it becomes harder to find.

Pathfinder aim to reduce that friction creating a local index of files and their content, allowing fast search, narrowed and reproducible.

Local search and ownership of your data

Pathfinder is build around one important principle : Your data must stay in your control.

Indexation is stored locally on your computer or in your environment that you control. Your files data aren't sent toward an external server without your explicit conscent first.

If some optionnal data or statistics could eventually added, it will only serve to aim to better the tool, diagnosis of bugs or better knowledge about performence issues related to the specificities of your environment hardware. Those should be on a volontary basis, with anonymised data in transparency.

User must be able to delete easily all local indexation. Deleting database of Pathfinder will not alter original files: this will simply retire index created by the application.

Usecases

Pathfinder can serve to quickly find a document, a note, a piece of code, a bill, a configuration or a lost information in a complex tree.

It can also be used in an IT context. An informatic team can use it to search files potentially containing sensitive data like passwords, API keys, connections strings or old files of configuration forgotten on network shares.

Pathfinder will never replace complete security audit, but it can help to quickly find potential problems and better à mieux raise awareness to good practices to users.
